“If GumBits, chewy sugar, makes you & your horse happy to perform in a softer way, then that’s all I care.…I want to share and be nice.” shereen
In 2005 GumBits was developed. Fuqua’s personal horses and friends’ loves to chew the chewy sugar. Just like people, the jaw softens and horse’s relax in our sport for training dressage competition. As title sponsor of Collecting Gaits Farm USEF National Dressage Championships, she knew the best in class, equestrians wanted it. Then 2014, a call from
Matt Brown, who wanted to confirm it’s ingredients for FEI safe for Three Day Eventing. He went on to go to the Olympics, as well as Lauren (then) Kieffer, Lauren Billy’s, and others.
In Europe, it spread and many unnamed Olympians used back then, and many new Olympians today.. The tension in high competition, horses chew and relax. It’s simple relaxation with the beeswax/sugar that stays in the mouth longer than plain sugar cubes. It’s gives them something to think about as they chew and salivate, making the connection from the rider’s hand to the horse’s mouth threw the bit, soft with a soft hand. People call days before flying to compete in Europe anxious to get some GumBits. Shereen loves the ability to spread and share such an easy simple way to relax the horses.
Her daughter Kat uses GumBits all her life with her competition ponies and hunters, now dressage and jumpers. Fuqua never thought to promote to the hunters back in the days, because they are so set in their ways. But then one day,
Archie Cox, big R judge and Equitation judge of the Maclay, called.. he asked others at the in gate, “why does Kat’s horses always have foamy soft mouths? “I’m proud he’s proud, to kindly be nice back and promote my GumBits. To be a prestigious judge, and tag us on social media, never asking for anything in return, is… well these days, shocking. I have other judges as well, like Michael Tokaruk, who does the same! If it makes people and their horses happy, I’m very happy. Either way, Kat and I are on our way!”, says Shereen Fuqua.
